Liverpool vs Bournemouth: Reds record 9-0 biggest ever Premier League win

While Liverpool goes into the break with a 5-0 lead against Bournemouth at Anfield, Manchester City trail Crystal Palace 2-0 at the Etihad. Liverpool’s win was never in doubt, just waiting to see what City would do.
Pep Guardiola’s team turned around brilliantly. City won the match 4-2 after Erling Haaland‘s hat-trick followed by four goals in the second half.

Liverpool did not stop either. Jurgen Klopp’s side scored another 4 goals after the break to record the biggest margin of victory in the Premier League. Previously, the feat of winning 9-0 in the Premier League was three times. Of which Manchester United won twice (against Ipswich Town in 1995, Southampton in 2021) and Leicester City once (against Southampton in 2019). Liverpool also shared that record today.
Meanwhile, Chelsea won 2-1 against Leicester City, Raheem Sterling scoring both goals for Thomas Tuchel’s side.

Both matches started at the same time. But from the beginning, the Premier League champions and runners-up, how many contrasts in the game! City started with an own goal in 4 minutes against Palace. On the other hand, Liverpool, who scored the first goal in Bournemouth’s net in 3 minutes, got the second goal in the 7th minute of the match. Harvey Elliott after goalscorer Luis Diaz. After drawing in the first two of the previous three matches, Liverpool lost to Manchester United in the third as if they came to repay the fans in one match. Trent Alexander-Arnold, Roberto Firmino, and Virgil van Dijk all netted Bournemouth before the break. Liverpool scored 5 goals in the first half of the Liverpool vs Bournemouth match for the first time in the Premier League.

Liverpool equals the biggest Premier League win record in Liverpool vs Bournemouth match

At the Etihad, City scored the second goal of the match. The palace received a corner in the 21st minute. Palace center-back Joachim Andersson extended the gap with a header from Iberechi Eze’s cross. However, the corner from which the goal was scored is controversial. Palace was awarded the corner after City defender Cancelo elbowed him. There should have been a free-kick for City, not a Palace corner. After 2010, City has never conceded two goals in such a short period of time in any Premier League match at home. However, until then, City had 80 percent possession of the ball in the match, and after 2-0, Pep Guardiola’s team had 75 percent possession of the ball until the break!

It was City who turned around brilliantly and sent the ball into Palace’s net four times after the break. After Bernardo Silva reduced the deficit in the 53rd minute, Erling Haaland scored three consecutive goals in the 62nd, 70th, and 81st minutes to get his first hat-trick in the Premier League.
Liverpool’s tie with Bournemouth was, however, predictable. The Championship side this season have conceded 9 goals in the first three games (Villa 2-0, City 4-0, Arsenal 3-0), not scoring a single one. But today Liverpool played with them. This season, the Premier League has never seen such a one-sided match.

Bournemouth conceded an own goal after the break. However, the help of VAR had to be taken to confirm that goal. Firmino scored his second goal of the Liverpool vs Bournemouth match and the team’s seventh goal in the 63rd minute of the match. But on this day, Liverpool did not want to stop. Substitute Fabio Carvalho made it 8-0 in the 81st minute, Luis Diaz scored his second goal in the 85th minute to make it 9-0.
