Nuñez's debut goal, Liverpool Community Shield win over Manchester City

Manchester City won the English Premier League title at the last minute in incredible drama last season. Throughout the season, Liverpool was close to City in the points table, but in the end, they had to stop as runners-up. Who knows what will happen now! However, Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool, who won the FA Cup last season, won the first trophy of English football in the 2022-23 season after beating the league champions City 3-1 in the FA Community Shield today.

Trent Alexander-Arnold, Mohamed Salah and Darwin Nunez, who made his competitive debut in Liverpool’s jersey, scored three goals for Liverpool. City’s only goal came from another debutant, Juan Alvarez.

Alexander-Arnold’s goal led Liverpool in the 21st minute. In the 70th minute, the substitute Argentine forward Alvarez equalized for City. In the 83rd minute, Mohamed Salah scored a penalty goal and Liverpool went ahead again. Liverpool got the penalty after VAR review. Ruben Dias hits the head of the Uruguayan star Darwin Nunez, who has caused a stir in the team change. The 23-year-old Núñez scored the third himself with a header in the fourth minute of added time. Egyptian star Salah contributed to all three goals of Liverpool.

And that is sure to win Liverpool’s Community Shield after 16 years. Liverpool took home the seasonal trophy for the 16th time.

Arling Holland or Darwin Nunez, who will beat the two new English season this year? There is still a long way to go to answer that question. However, in the first match of the season, Nunez left Holland far behind. Nunez got off to a dream start, scoring one goal and contributing another. On the other hand, the Norwegian striker Holland, who left Borussia Dortmund and came to City, wasted several chances to score.

Núñez, who joined Liverpool from Portuguese club Benfica for a record 850 million pounds, entered the field as a replacement for Roberto Firmino in the 59th minute. The 23-year-old star took no time at all to trouble City’s defence. In the 60th minute, the City goalkeeper took the ball from Nunez’s feet and frustrated Nunez again after 4 minutes. A great pass from Jordan Henderson found Nunez. Núñez looked to send the ball over the head of Aguan Elleson into the net, but it was deflected into the face of the Brazilian goalkeeper.

In the end, who remembers this wasted opportunity. In the first match, Nunez proved that Salah and his pair must be placed next to the terrible table.
